Along the Outer Banks we have enjoyed an unusually mild winter.  We've had our fair share of wind and rain but almost no temperatures at or below freezing.  Spring flowers are beginning to bloom and the birds are chirping.  Presidents day weekend brought lots of visitors to enjoy the area and many of them shopped for homes.  

 
At long last, the old brick building on the corner of Highway 158 and the Woods Road on the right as you arrive onto the Outer Banks has been demolished to make way for a new 7-11 gas station and convenience store.  The abandoned gas station that sat on the property for so many years was an eyesore and we couldn't be happier to finally see it gone!  
 
We also got the news that our K Mart store in KIll Devil Hills is closing.  This was no surprise as it was the last K Mart store left in the state.  There is wide speculation about what might be taking over the large commercial site but we don't have any official news for you just yet.  
 
We are pleased to inform you that the multi use pedestrian path along South Dogwood Trail in Southern Shores is nearly complete.  This was a fantastic addition to the Town of Southern Shores.  South Dogwood traffic is heavy in the summer and there was a safety concern.  
 
In real estate news we are pleased to report that the market is hot.  The month of December brought with it the lowest inventory of existing homes for sale since the early 80's.  As a result, prices are increasing.  Demand for homes has been on the rise which is typical for this time of year.  As always each sector of the  market varies so we are breaking it down for you town by town.
